Meet Our Physician | Dr. D.

Dr. Deanah Maxwell Stafford is a proud native of Tuskegee, Alabama. She currently resides in Macon County with her husband Travin Stafford with whom she shares an adult son. Dr. D is the daughter of Louis and Janice Maxwell of Tuskegee and the proud aunt to four nephews and two nieces. Dr. D has known since childhood that she wanted to be a doctor in her hometown. She has always felt that God specifically placed this mission in her heart and on her life. After graduating from Booker T. Washington High school in 1997, Dr. D continued her studies at UAB where she received her undergraduate degree in medical technology. While at UAB she was one of the inaugural members of The Gold Society, which recognizes medical students who excel in the more humanistic aspect of medicine. She was also recognized at graduation with the Patient Communication Award presented by Pro assurance. She then went on to earn her master’s degree from the University of Alabama where she was a part of the rural medical scholars’ program.

As a rural medical scholar, she received education and training designed to create the next generation of healthcare leaders for Rural Alabama. Upon completion of her master’s degree, she matriculated at the University of Alabama School of medicine. Dr. D successfully completed her Doctor of Medicine in 2007. Upon completion of medical school, she was accepted into the Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program where she spent an additional three years training to become a family medicine physician.

Upon successful completion of the residency program Dr. D was the first and only fellow of academic medicine at the Tuscaloosa family medicine residency. In that role she was afforded the opportunity to work with medical students and residents as a junior attending.

After leaving Tuscaloosa she joined the Brewton Medical Center in Brewton, Alabama as a physician. After four years of working in Brewton Dr. D felt the push to take her knowledge back to her hometown and start treating patients there. Upon her return to Tuskegee, she was employed with the Tuskegee Medical and Surgical Center and then went on to Prime Care Medical Center. It was at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic that she heard the undeniable word from God to move, and in April 2021 after much prayer and hard work the doors of Rhema Health and Wellness were opened.

Along with running her own private practice Dr. D is a proud an active member of Nebraska Missionary Baptist Church in Hardaway, Alabama. She is also a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority Inc. Her medical affiliations include being a member of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians.
